New York’s Food and Nutrition Leaders

The New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (NYSAND) was founded in 1930 in Rochester, NY by 14 pioneering dietitians. A constitution was adopted and it was voted to affiliate with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).

Within the first two decades of organizing, six Association members served as AND Presidents. Six district associations were initially recognized (Rochester, Greater New York, Buffalo, Utica, Central New York, and Hudson Valley).

A legacy of service and advocacy was established by these early members and has continued through the years as NYSAND members continue to serve the public through nutrition awareness campaigns, career promotion, research, education and legislative activity on public health issues.
