The School of Global Public Health (GPH) at New York University (NYU) seeks an exceptional scholar and administrator to become its next Director for the Public Health Nutrition Program (PHN). This is a faculty position at GPH, eligible for tenure, that includes responsibilities for building on the innovative academic programs and research at GPH, drawing on opportunities across NYU as well as those afforded by its locations in New York City and throughout its global network. Located within a relatively new but renowned school of public health, ranked among the top 20 institutions in the nation, the Public Health Nutrition Program uses holistic and integrated methodologies to investigate public health nutrition issues. It incorporates disciplines of community health, environmental studies, epidemiology, and more. Through its events, student-focused labs, internship placements, and career planning resources, the Public Health Nutrition Program offers unparalleled opportunities for professional development and collaboration in several subject areas, including nutrition research methodology, oncology, chronic diseases, food and nutrition policy, and maternal health.
The next Director will create and implement a strategic vision to set the path for a thriving program with significant impact on scholarship and practice in the field. As a member of the senior leadership team in GPH, the Director will collaborate closely with GPH faculty, leadership, and administrative staff, as well as leaders from other schools that are integral to PHN programs. The Director is responsible for growing the faculty and will be engaged in the recruitment, development, and retention of new faculty while cultivating an inclusive, welcoming, and positive culture. The Director will set the standard for the program and increase its visibility and reach by building out mentorship initiatives and student-facing organizations. The Director will have expertise in the program’s subject areas to ensure the growth, vitality, and relevance of PHN’s content and offerings. Finally, drawing on the reach and resources provided by the GPH and NYU, the Director will foster opportunities for collaborative research, mentorship, community-building, and global outreach.
The successful candidate will be an established scholar with a focus on community and global health and possess a doctoral degree or equivalent in nutrition or other related subject areas such as public health or social science. The PHN works closely with NYU Steinhardt to provide offerings for and administer the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist program, and as such, the ideal candidate would bring knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Didactic Program in Dietetics. The next Director will need to have exemplary research and academic achievement along with a proven record of successful leadership, excellent communication skills, team building and interpersonal skills, and management experience.
